Discover the premium garnet sand, featuring a grain size of 0.18-0.35 mm (80 mesh), perfect for various blasting applications. This effective blasting abrasive is designed for efficient derusting and paint stripping, ensuring minimal dust formation during use.
With a bulk density of approximately 2.4 g/cm3 and a specific weight of 4.1 g/cm3, this garnet sand boasts a hardness of over 7.5 on the Mohs scale. It delivers excellent blasting results, achieving fine surface finishes with a smoother appearance.
Notably, the gentle and economical nature of this blasting medium offers optimal cleaning results while minimizing the loss of material from the surface. The recommended dimensions for optimum air supply in pressure blasting applications are 500x270x100 mm.
While garnet sand is less durable than corundum, requiring about 3-5 cycles, its fine grain structure allows for superior blasting patterns. However, note that the higher bulk density can complicate injector blasting, as coarse grains may not be effectively drawn in.
This versatile abrasive is primarily utilized for removing paint and rust, making it the go-to choice for heavy-duty cleaning tasks, especially on brake parts or heavily coated surfaces. Ideal for use in blast cabinets, the garnet sand generates less dust compared to other materials, such as corundum.
Works flawlessly up to 6-7 bar and can be mixed effectively with glass beads like SKG 150 GP1 or SKG 250 GP3 for tailored blasting solutions.

Tip:
- Only work in the injector area with a blasting material mix up to max. 0.25 mm/250 my (an exception is our fine special slag SKG 300 SLA1, which is only used for free blasting, however, SKG 130 GSG4 can also be used wonderfully for injector blasting, as most grains are closer to 0.25 mm), as coarse grains are not sucked in during injector blasting due to their size and weight (the blasting effect is then worse).
Application:
- This abrasive garnet sand is a kind of general weapon for removing paint and rust.
- The SKG 130 GSG4 is mainly used when there is a lot of dirt, e.g. for rough rust removal, or when there is a high surface coating, e.g. on brake parts.
- Use in a blast cabinet is ideal, as the SKG 130 GSG4 only produces a small amount of dust (less than the corundum or the SKG 125 GSG3).
- The garnet sand can be used up to approx. 6-7 bar without any problems.
- The garnet sand is ideal for mixing with one of the two glass beads SKG 150 GP1 or SKG 250 GP3.
