It's important to note that varying measurement and production methods among V-belt manufacturers can lead to different length specifications, yet these differences do not compromise belt functionality.

Understanding the distinct industry standards is crucial, as they utilize different parameters for determining length specifications. We differentiate between external length (Le), internal length (Li), and pitch length, which is measured at approximately 3/4 height of the belt in accordance with DIN 2215.

Take into account the belt tension recommended by the vehicle manufacturer for accurate length measurement, as it plays a significant role in the manufacturing process. Be aware that due to these various measuring methods, it is common for different V-belt dimensions from multiple manufacturers to be fitting on the same vehicle.

For Piaggio scooters, special attention should be directed towards the oil pump belt after a V-belt failure. The rupture of a V-belt can cause parts to fly within the engine housing, potentially damaging or destroying the oil pump belt, which is situated behind the variomatic and is not immediately visible. It’s advisable to inspect the oil pump belt by looking behind the variomatic, ensuring its condition, and replacing it if necessary. Neglecting a damaged or destroyed oil pump belt may lead to piston seizure!
